Cây huỳnh tinh vằn, hay còn gọi là cây dạ lam, cây dong vằn, có tên khoa học là Calathea zebrina, thuộc họ củ dong ( Marantaceae ). Cây có nguồn gốc từ Brasin.

Cây huỳnh tinh vằn mọc thành bụi thưa, sống lâu năm do thân rễ dài mạnh, nằm trong đất. Lá bầu dục, nhọn hai đầu, màu đỏ tía ở mặt dưới, mặt trên lục nhạt có lông mịn, nổi rõ các vằn màu lục đậm song song dọc theo mép lá.

Cây cao khoảng 1m. Lá thuôn dài bầu dục,mép gợn sóng, nhọn hai đầu, tù và kéo dài ở gốc, màu đỏ tía ở mặt dưới, mặt trên màu lục nhạt có lông mịn, nổi rõ các vằn màu lục đậm song song dọc theo mép lá. Cuống lá cong hình lòng máng, có cánh và dài ngang với phiến lá. Lá có dáng đẹp, gân bên nổi rõ, mảnh, gần song song với nhau.

Cụm hoa hình cầu ở giữa đám lá, mọc từ gốc cuống chung mập, lớn, cao. Hoa màu tím xếp dày đặc ở đỉnh. Cây chủ yếu trồng làm cảnh bằng lá. Có thể trồng thành bụi dàu ở chậu hay trồng dọc theo lối đi, viền các bờ cỏ, nơi công viên, vườn hoa. Cây còn có thể chịu bóng một phần, nên làm cây trang trí trong phòng được. Nhân giống chủ yếu bằng tách bụi có chồi non và rễ.

Cây huỳnh tinh vằn có tốc độ sinh trưởng nhanh. Cây chịu bóng bán phần hoặc hoàn toàn, nhu cầu nước cao thích hợp làm cây trồng nội thất. Nhân giống từ tách bụi, cây mọc khỏe.
